Stage 4 cancer has spread in the body far from the original tumor and usually is impossible to treat.

“The percentages are very good. I would hate to say, but right now, it looks like it should be 80 percent, and with certain hospitals and everything, it does improve,” said Douglas.

According to the National Cancer Institute, patients suffering from brain cancer or throat cancer, Stage 4, usually calls at surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Michael Douglas told David Letterman the disease was caused by smoking and alcohol consumption. Actor accused throat pain and has undergone several medical tests in early summer, but initially, doctors have found nothing. After the summer break, the actor decided to do a biopsy and tissue analysis indicated that sampled cancer.

If radiotherapy and chemotherapy are not effective, Michael Douglas will be operated and will support a partial or total laryngectomy. Following such operations, American actor could have a changed voice or could lose his voice completely.
